Business & Investment Visas

Advice on current business and innovation pathways, and on permanent transitions.

A changing area of migration

The Business Innovation and Investment Program closed on 31 July 2024, and new subclass 188 applications can no longer be lodged. Existing 188 visa holders may still be able to apply for the permanent subclass 888 visa, or extend their provisional stay, if they meet the criteria.

For new applicants, the National Innovation visa (subclass 858) is aimed at exceptionally talented people, including some entrepreneurs and investors. Other skilled and employer pathways may also suit business owners. We assess which, if any, fit your profile.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still apply for a new 188 visa?

No. The program closed to new applications on 31 July 2024. If you already hold a 188 visa, ask us about 888 and extension options.

Is the National Innovation visa for business owners?

It's for people with an internationally recognised record of exceptional achievement, which can include some entrepreneurs and investors. It isn't a general business visa, and it requires an expression of interest.

Do you give financial or tax advice?

No. We advise on migration only. For financial, tax or investment advice, please consult a licensed financial adviser or accountant.
